Last Friday, the second seminar of the DARE Seminar Series took place at K. Donelaitis room in the Faculty of Philology, bringing together students and lecturers from the faculty and abroad both in person and online.

The seminar, delivered by Silvia and moderated by Liudmila, presented an overview of the DARE project and shared preliminary findings from an initial exploratory analysis of abortion news reports published by BBC and The Guardian between 2020 and 2025. The presentation focused on the use of quantitative methods, particularly corpus linguistics and topic modelling, to examine patterns in the representation of social actors across the dataset.

Particular attention was given to an ongoing collaborative study with Dr Lorella Viola (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam), exploring the representation of activist actors from both sides of the abortion debate. The preliminary results suggest asymmetries in the visibility and framing of pro-choice and anti-abortion actors, which will be further examined through qualitative analysis.
