The DN34 International Conference on Discourse, Identity and Polarisation will take place on 10–12 November 2026 in hybrid mode, with pre-conference workshops on 9 November 2026. The conference is hosted by Vilnius University in collaboration with DiscourseNet and the DARE Horizon Europe postdoctoral project.

Getting to Vilnius
The in-person venue is Vilnius University, Faculty of Philology, Universiteto g. 5, 01122 Vilnius, Lithuania.
Vilnius is easily accessible via Vilnius International Airport / Vilnius Čiurlionis International Airport (VNO), located close to the city centre. You may also arrive via Kaunas International Airport (KUN), which is approximately 1–1.5 hours from Vilnius by car or intercity transport.
From Vilnius Airport to the city centre
Once you arrive at Vilnius Airport, there are several convenient ways to reach the city centre, the Old Town and the conference venue.
1. By public transport
A public transport stop is located outside the airport terminal. Direct buses connect Vilnius Airport with the city centre, the railway station, the bus station area and surrounding districts. The main airport routes are:
- Bus 88: Airport - City Centre - Europa Square
- Bus 1: Airport - Station
- Bus 2: Airport - Bus/Railway Station area
- Express bus 3G: Airport - City Centre - Fabijoniškės
- Night bus 88N: Airport - City Centre - Europa Square, useful for late arrivals and early departures
The journey from the airport to the city centre usually takes around 20 minutes by bus, depending on traffic and route. Tickets can be purchased via the m.Ticket or Trafi apps, using a JUDU/Vilniečio card, or by contactless bank card on public transport. Some mobile ticketing services may require a Lithuanian phone number, so contactless payment or a JUDU card may be more convenient for international visitors. Current Vilnius public transport fares include: €1.00 for a 30-minute ticket, €1.25 for a 60-minute ticket, €7.50 for a 24-hour ticket, and €13.50 for a 72-hour ticket. Participants should check the official JUDU website before travel, as fares may be updated.
2. By train
A dedicated train connects Vilnius Airport with Vilnius Railway Station. The journey takes up to 8 minutes, and the airport railway stop is only a short walk from the arrivals terminal. The train ticket between Vilnius Airport and Vilnius Railway Station currently costs €0.90. Tickets can be purchased online, via the LTG Link app, at ticket machines or on the train.
3. By taxi or ride-hailing app
Taxis are available outside the airport terminal. Ride-hailing apps such as Bolt and Uber are also commonly used in Vilnius and operate around the clock. These options may be especially convenient for participants travelling with luggage or arriving late.
Getting around Vilnius
Vilnius city centre and the Old Town are compact and walkable. The conference venue at Vilnius University is located in the historical centre, close to major hotels, cafés, restaurants, museums and public transport stops. Many accommodation options are within a 5-20 minute walk of the venue. For public transport, participants may use Vilnius buses, trolleybuses, express buses and night buses. Recommended tools for route planning include Trafi, m.Ticket, Google Maps and the official JUDU website.
1. Accommodation
Conference participants are kindly asked to arrange their own accommodation. A range of hotels, guest houses, apartments and short-term rental options is available in Vilnius Old Town and the city centre, many within walking distance of Vilnius University. As the conference takes place in November, the tourist season is usually quieter than in summer; however, we still recommend booking accommodation early, especially if you wish to stay close to the venue. Please note that Vilnius applies a city tax of €2 per person per night for guests using accommodation services; this fee may not be included in the room price and may be charged separately by the accommodation provider.
We are currently exploring whether selected hotels may offer discounted rates for conference participants. We will update this page as soon as more information becomes available.
2. Suggested areas to stay
- Vilnius Old Town – closest to the conference venue, restaurants, cafés, museums and historical sites.
- Cathedral Square / Gediminas Avenue area – central, walkable and convenient for hotels.
- Naujamiestis / Railway Station area – practical for airport train connections and slightly wider accommodation choices.
